We need wisdom to decide what to do.  This page will help you make wise choices.

We all make choices every day. Some decisions are not so hard, others more challenging – decisions that can affect the outcome of our future!

Let me give you some principles that hopefully will help you make a wise choice when making major decisions in your life.

1. Decide what is most important in your life

What are your priorities in life? Some believe having a good career and possessions are their priority.  Others believe it’s having relationships and family, while others feel their health is their priority.

Understanding what is most important in your life will help you make the best choice for you.

2. Always uphold your life principles

Do you have principles that you seek to uphold in life? Sometimes these principles can be challenged and this could affect your decision. For example; you go for a job interview and your prospective employer expects you to do something that is against your moral or spiritual standard. Don’t be prepared to lower or compromise your principles.

This is a Proverb in the Bible that I try to follow as my guide post for making decisions. “In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge God and He will direct and make straight your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5)

3. Decide not to make hasty decisions.

Pressures will come that could challenge you to make a hasty decision. Pressure like demanding that an answer be given today!  Don’t make a hasty decision or decide on a course of action you don’t feel good about. Take time out so that you can make the right choice for you!

4. Expect opportunities to come

Our decision-making can be affected by many emotions. One big negative emotion is fear.  Fear of failure, fear of disappointment, fear of intimacy, fear of loss… the list can go on.

Our mindsets will dictate the outcome when making a major decision. It has been well said: “Man’s thinking determines what he does. Man’s thinking determines who he becomes.”

Another great Proverb (23:7) says, “As a man reasons in his heart, so is he.” When you think positively, you won’t be content with second best but you’ll expect further great opportunities to come to you.

5. Will your decision meet your need for fulfilment.

We all have needs, particularly emotional needs. I have seen many people remain in an abusive job or relationship, crying on the inside as their inner need for fulfilment has not been met.

When you are fulfilled and affirmed in who you are, your decision will stand the test of time.

6. Ask for wisdom when unsure what to do

The Bible assures us that:  “If any of you needs wisdom, you should ask God for it. He is generous and enjoys giving to all people, so he will give you wisdom” (James 1:5). This Bible verse says, “If any of you needs wisdom, you should ask”. So if you need wisdom in deciding what to do, why not ask for it!

Understanding what is most important in your life will help you make the best choice for you. The most important thing in my life is having inner peace.

Make a wise choice and watch the video, ‘What are you afraid of?’  In this video Ryan was afraid that if he had died would he be good enough to get into Heaven. See how he made a wise choice.
