How to deal with past loss

In this session you will see how to bring healing to you past loss. The past loss of your earthly father’s love and security, the loss of self-esteem, having been rejected and the loss of trust, after a traumatic event.

Wilma Watson continues to guide us.  She has sought to help remove the baggage of inner shame, unforgiveness, unhealthy soul ties, iniquities and self-defense walls. We trust you have found the teaching life changing!

Today, we will look at three profound losses that can affect our relationship with God.

1. A past loss – your earthly father’s love and security.

Listen to Jesus having an intimate chat with His Father, God in John 17: I have made Your Name known to them and revealed Your character and Your very Self, and I will continue to make [You] known, that the love which You have bestowed upon Me may be in them [felt in their hearts].

From this verse we discover a key to having the love of Father God felt in our hearts. That is, to know the nature of Almighty God as revealed in His name. Here are some of the names:

These names sound like a dad who loves his children, don’t they? What was your relationship with your earthly father when you were growing up?

Was your dad affirming? Did he hug you? Did your dad impart to you a sense of self-worth? If not, maybe your relationship with God has been affected as you see Him through the eyes of your earthly father.

I’m sure many can relate to having a dad who did not embrace them and did not impart to them a sense of self-worth. So, what do we do about it?

Wilma shares:

‘My husband, Bill, lived with very wounded parents. His mother had grown up with no mother and was raised by relatives. She always felt she was not wanted.

Sadly, it led to years of abandonment and rejection.  Bill’s dad unfortunately, had unmet needs himself and couldn’t give away what he did not have.

Bill grew up feeling distant from his father, as he did not receive nurture and relate to him well. Bill forgave and released his dad and has found his unmet needs fulfilled by his Heavenly Father’.

The way to freedom is to forgive your earthy father.

Father God, I choose to forgive my dad and no longer blame him for not being there emotionally (and physically) for me.

I forgive and release him for being distant, unapproachable and angry, for not protecting (and providing for) me as a child and not imparting to me a sense of self-worth.

The devil is a liar, the father of lies.

When you have not had a good role model in your earthly father, it can affect your image of your Heavenly Father. The devil uses deception and lies to keep you from enjoying a loving personal relationship with God.

Renounce the lies you have believed about God. Include anyways you have perceived Him as your earthly father. Then, declare the truth about God’s love and goodness toward you.

Father God, where I have believed the enemy’s lies about You, please forgive me. (Be specific – tell God what lies you are believing about Him – such as: “You are distant and unapproachable”).

I renounce them now and replace them with the truth of Your Word, for You are a faithful, good, good Heavenly Father.

2. A past loss of self-esteem – leaving you feeling rejected.

Rejection can either be covert (concealed and hidden – as in the inability of parents to communicate their love to the child, either verbally, physically or both) or overt (blatant and obvious – when one is told they are not wanted).

Whatever form of rejection you have suffered from, it can affect who you are. It flows out of inner shame, making you feel unworthy of love.

Jesus endured rejection and shame when He died on the cross in order that we would have total acceptance with Father God. So, do not allow rejection to define you.

Let’s look at what the Bible says about you being worthy of God’s love and His acceptance of you.

From these Bible verses you can declare the truth:

  1. I have been made right with God.
  2. I am a very precious child of Almighty God.
  3. I have been chosen by God. I am not a mistake.
  4. My sins have been totally forgiven!
  5. I am not a reject. I am totally accepted by God.
  6. I can talk to God at any time.

Father God, thank You for loving me so much that You sent Jesus to die for me. Thank You for making me Your precious child.
Thank You for accepting me unconditionally and for making my spirit right with You. Thank You for making it possible for me to come into Your presence and talk to You with the assurance that You will hear and answer me.

Please forgive me for listening to and believing the enemy’s lies. I renounce them now as well as all rejection. I choose to allow Your truth to set me free to receive Your love and acceptance. With You help I will aim to love others with the same love that You have given me. Amen

We’ve been looking at the reason why many know God’s love intellectually but haven’t really experienced the depth of His love.

3. A past loss of trust – following trauma.

When you’ve gone through a painful situation, you’ll either run to God for His love and comfort, or the devil will use it. The enemy tries to make you feel distant from God, to keep you from reading His word, hearing Him, and praying to Him.

Jesus doesn’t look at our suffering with distant coldness. He entered our brokenness and felt it first-hand. Jesus heals broken hearts! Psalm 147verse 3 affirms this. It says, “He heals the broken hearted and binds up their wounds”.

Lord Jesus, come as the Prince of Peace and fill me with your peace. God of all comfort, Your steadfast love never ceases. Thank You for sending Jesus! He who bore my griefs and carried my sorrows and pains in order that I can be restored to wholeness.

I choose to forgive and release all those who have hurt me. I reject and release all negative emotions, particularly self-rejection. I reject and release destructive cellular memories that have kept my body trapped in trauma.

I forgive and release people who have cheated on me, judged me, criticized me, taken advantage of me, or called me names, lied about me and dishonored me.

In Jesus’ Name, I take authority over trauma and command it to leave. I release all the effects of feeling abandoned, cut off, rejected, disappointed, disillusioned, confused and afraid.

I thank you, Father, for restoring my traumatised central nervous system and for bringing neurological imbalances into divine order.

Thank You, Jesus, for your shed Blood that washes my conscience clean from painful memories, past disappointments and regrets. (Hebrews 9:14)

Holy Spirit, thank You for bathing my entire body with Your oil. Pour Yourself into every area where the trauma has left. In Jesus wonderful Name, Amen
